Comedian Jason Manford has jokingly offered to sell his plane tickets to Paris after Manchester City lost their match against Real Madrid. The Salford star took to Twitter to share the message after Man City missed out on a place in the Champions’ League final after losing 3 – 1 to the Spanish side.

Had the Manchester side won against Real Madrid they would have faced off against rivals Liverpool in the final on May 28. The loss has been described as the side’s “most crushing defeat” of Pep Guardiola’s tenure as manager. The game saw Real Madrid make a ferocious comeback at the 11th hour, with the Spanish side notching up a stunning victory in the last two minutes of play.

The sides had been drawing 1 – 1 until two goals from Real Madrid in the match’s closing minutes won them the match and saw Man City suffer an ignominious exit from the Champions League, reports The Mirror.

It left City fans including Manford devastated as the team’s prospects in the season plummeted. Meanwhile, Liverpool FC are on track for an excellent season, prompting the comic to poke the friendly jibe online.

In a Tweet, he said: “For sale. 2 flights from Manchester to Paris. May 28th. Will NOT sell to scousers.” @noideamashite attempted to get a sale by responding: “I’ll take the return for 10£ dm me.”

@SandraBrown113 responded: “Oh dear”. While @kentobin75 tweeted: “Right now, Alexa’s all over the North West getting asked ‘Alexa, how do I get a refund for my flight'”.

The comedian’s anger at the defeat wasn’t helped by the day’s Wordle puzzle, with the solution of “LOSER” only rubbing salt into the wound. “And Wordle can f*** off as well!” tweeted Manford after the ironic solution was revealed.

Others jokingly commented about Man City fans who had purchased tickets to Paris in the 89th minute being left in the lurch by the team’s collapse. @EPLIndex posted: “I was thinking, I wonder how many City fans booked tickets to Paris in the 18 minutes before the Mahrez goal and Rodrygo’s second.”

Manager Pep Guardiola now shares a painful record with long-time adversary Jose Mourinho after his side’s dramatic exit from the league. Reflecting on the 3-1 defeat at the Bernabeu, two-time Champions League winner Guardiola told BT Sport: “In the first half we did not have [the] game, we were not good enough.

“But we did not suffer much. After we scored the goal we were better. We found our tempo and our game and the players were comfortable. It is not like in the last 10 minutes they attack and attack and you suffer. It didn’t happen.

“They put a lot of players in the box, with Eder Militao, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, Karim Benzema and they put in crosses and scored two goals. We didn’t play our best, but it is normal, a semi-final, the players feel the pressure and wanting to do it. Football is unpredictable, it is a game like this. We have to accept it.”
