Men armed with machete and hatchet break into Glenavy house

Two men armed with a hatchet and a machete broke into a house early on Friday morning and threatened the occupants.

Police said the windows of the Main Street property were smashed, with significant damage caused to a van parked outside at around 4am.

The men, who reportedly arrived in a silver Volkswagen Passat, then broke through the front door and threatened those inside the house.

They then made off in the direction of the Moira Road.

The PSNI said they then stopped a car matching the description of that seen at the Glenavy house and detained two men in their 30s.

The men were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including making threats to kill, aggravated burglary and criminal damage.

A woman in her 30s was also arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and driving whilst unfit.

The trio are being questioned by police and officers have appealed for anyone with information about the incidents to contact police.
