Britney Spears has been praised for breaking the so-called ‘12 week rule’ stigma after announcing she had experienced a miscarriage.

The pop star, 40, and her fiancé Sam, 28, shared the sad news they had suffered a miscarriage early into their pregnancy and explained in the statement how they had announced the pregnancy early because they were “overly excited”.

In the statement Britney and Sam said: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy.

“This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along however we were overly excited to share the good news.

“Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family.”

Britney and her fiancé Sam concluded their sad announcement by asking for privacy during this time.

In response to Britney and Sam’s announcement, many fans have praised the singer for being open during such a difficult experience.

Writing messages in support of the star, one fan wrote: “It’s really sad hearing about Britney’s miscarriage. She’s such a strong person and deserves so much.”

Another added: “The shaming around miscarriage after announcing the pregnancy before 12 weeks is a disgraceful part of the narrative around baby loss. Nobody should have to carry this on top of their grief.

“I hope @britneyspears can draw comfort from the love and support of well wishers.”

“’I’m thankful you announced,” one person commented. “There is stigma with announcing too early, and then with miscarriage you have to be quiet.

“By doing this, you’re allowing space for others to heal just as you. The more we speak about it, the more we all know we experience it together. I’m sorry for your loss.”

Another Instagram user wrote: “Don’t even feel bad for announcing your pregnancy early’ that baby was alive and a spirit and a human and deserved to be announced”.

Another fan added: “Can we normalize sharing pregnancy news in the first trimester? Who cares if hearing about loss makes some people uncomfortable.

“As women, we shouldn’t be pressured to conceal our ‘condition’. I wish I knew how common miscarriage was when I had my first. It would have been nice to know about other women’s experience beforehand.”

Another fan shared: “Sending love, light and strength to you both.”

While a fifth follower gave their positive thoughts, saying: “I’m so sorry Britney! I know how much you want another baby. It will happen.”

Britney has two sons with her ex husband Kevin Federline – Sean, 17, and Jayden, 16.

Just over a month ago, the beloved pop star revealed she’d discovered she was pregnant after a series of moments feeling sick and nauseous while she was on holiday with her beau in Hawaii.

The couple, who are thought to be planning their upcoming nuptials in the sunny island state, have been jetting backwards and forwards to the beachy location over the last few months.

But on this particular occasion, Toxic hitmaker Britney shared a personal insight into how after losing a great deal of weight she’d become puzzled to learn she was gaining it all back.

“I thought ‘Geez … what happened to my stomach ???’,” the star told her followers. “My husband said ‘No you’re food pregnant silly!!!’ So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well … I am having a baby …

“4 days later I got a little more food pregnant. It’s growing !!! If 2 are in there … I might just lose it,” the star said at the time.

Britney then explained she would be avoiding going out as much as she didn’t want the paparazzi to have the opportunity to take pictures of her.

Going on to recall developing perinatal depression during her pregnancies with sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, the star told her followers the experience was “absolutely horrible”, especially as people didn’t talk about mental health struggles as much.

“It’s hard because when I was pregnant I had perinatal depression … I have to say it is absolutely horrible … women didn’t talk about it back then …,” the star said at the time.

She added: “Some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her … but now women talk about it everyday … thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret …”
