This Morning viewers were left shocked and telling Phillip Schofield to calm down as he got heavily involved in a gardening segment on the show. The presenter and co-host Holly Willoughby were back with another jam-packed edition of the ITV daytime show on Tuesday (May 17).

The show’s very own gardener Daisy Payne was back on the programme and hosted a new segment with her tips and tricks for viewers, including how to get rid of box tree caterpillars.

She shared how people can deter the moths that eventually turn into caterpillars and eat the hedges, and told viewers the signs to look out for to help combat the “troublesome problem” in your hedges which include cobwebs and the hedge going wispy or brown.

While Daisy suggested cutting these pieces of the hedge out and discarding them, Phillip, 60, appeared frustrated. “Daisy,” he shouted. as she appeared via video link. “I thought one of the problems was our indigenous birds don’t like to eat these caterpillars.”

“Yeah, we’re clutching at straws here, I can’t lie,” she replied before Phillip asked: “How do we kill them?” Daisy went against the host and killing them would be a last resort. But Phil insisted: “It’s not a last resort, it’s a first resort! They’re not supposed to be here, they’re stripping the hedges, kill them!”

As an alternative, Daisy suggested a biological spray that targets the caterpillars and doesn’t harm any other creatures in the garden as she explained: “It makes the little caterpillars explode and then the other caterpillars eat them.”
