The 36-year-old actress starred as Mary alongside Jason Momoa in the 2018 superhero film.
On Tuesday (May 17), Depp’s lawyer Camille Vazquez suggested that the “Scissorhands” actor was the reason she got the role.
Vazquez asked, “Johnny Depp brought you Aquaman, didn’t he?”
“I got Aquaman for myself,” Hurd replied.
Speaking in court on Aquaman on Monday (May 16), Hurd said she had to “really fight” to remain part of the sequel.
“I had to fight, I fought very hard to stay in the movie, they didn’t want to include me in the movie.”
Asked if she was allowed to star in the role, she admitted: “A very abbreviated version of this role, yes.”
The 36-year-old admitted that they took away a significant part of her role – in particular, battle scenes.
“They took a lot… I was given a script and given new versions of a script that took away scenes that had an action that featured my character and another character, no spoilers, two characters fighting each other, they essentially took off a bunch from my role. “
“They just removed the pile.”
When Depp spoke a few weeks earlier, Hurd’s lawyer read out a text alleging that Depp was angry with his ex-wife for going to work.
Depp assured, “It’s not necessarily an angry text, it’s just ‘why are you deviating from our arrangement,’ it’s not about the movies. How do you think she got Aquaman, sir?”
Although Hurd retained her role in Aquaman, the same cannot be said of Depp and his projects.
The actor “Alice in Wonderland” was replaced by the role of Gellert Grindelwald in “Fantastic Monsters” and, as you know, was excluded from the Disney franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
The petition calling for Hurd’s removal from Aquaman has collected more than 4.2 million signatures to date.
Depp, who was married to 36-year-old Hurd from 2015 to 2017, is suing his ex-wife for libel over an article she published in the 2018 Washington Post.
Depp is suing Hurd for $ 50 million (£ 40 million) and against her ex-husband for $ 100 million (£ 809 million).
The trial continues.
