Liam Gatsby has shared an update on how he’s recovering after detailing exactly what “life-changing” operation he had in early May.

On 5 May, the 33 year old had shared a snap of himself in The Holly Private Hospital in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, where he underwent surgery to repair his stomach after suffering from a hiatus hernia.

Now, The Only Way Is Essex star has returned to social media to share an update on his health, explaining that the recovery time is up to five months.

After asking his 482,000 followers to “Ask me a question,” one person quizzed how he was feeling following the operation.

“I’m recovering. Still in pain & discomfort but getting there slowly but surely,” he shared, followed by a flexed bicep emoji.

Liam, who recently confirmed he split from his girlfriend Dani Imbert, went on: “The Liquid diet for 6-8 weeks is the one thing that is really getting to me,” with an anguished face emoji.

Another curious fan couldn’t help but ask for details around the surgery, to which he responded: “For those asking who are experiencing the same symptoms as me it’s called ‘Laproscopic Nissen Fundoplication Surgery’.

“My stomach was taken out of my esophagus & then the stomach was wrapped round the esophagus to tighten it up to stop / food/liquids/acid travelling back up,” he shared with a fingers crossed emoji.

Liam continued: “can’t life before the surgery I was v. worried but so far so good [fingers crossed emoji] recovery time is between 3-5 months to hopefully see the full effects.

“I’ll just be happy to be able to eat food & drink water at the same time again”.

According to MayoClinic, Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication Surgery is a procedure to reinforce the oesophageal sphincter, which involved a surgeon wrapping the top of the stomach around the lower oesophagus after reducing the hiatal hernia.

Liam went on to share that his mum has been helping him “on my road to recovery” as he added: “There’s not many people who would fly half way across the world to look after you,” followed by a red heart emoji.

The Only Way Is Essex latest

He then shared an update on his future on the hit ITV show TOWIE after one person wrote: “Hope to see your good vibes and hilarious banter on the next season of TOWIE,” with a smiling emoji.

He replied: “You will indeed. Gatsby’s Back.” alongside a fingers crossed emoji.
