The model, posing in front of an 18th-hole scoreboard at the 1987 PGA Championship, once undressed in a bikini after the event took place in the heat of Florida, leaving then-PGA CEO Jim Otry “stunned”. The final major of the year was drawn at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach.
Organizing one of the biggest golf events in mid-summer summer in Florida, though probably wasn’t a better idea when players and fans were forced to fight at 36 degrees Celsius. Most of the spectators, oddly enough, were distracted from the event due to the great heat.
As an incentive to attract fans, the tournament organizers reportedly offered fans a free round on the national PGA course along with buying a ticket, according to Sports Illustrated.
The PGA also brought together three of the sport’s biggest names: Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson played the three in another attempt to draw the crowd through the Florida Gates.
Due to the fact that the tournament organizers seemed to be struggling to attract the attention of golf fans, the public relations campaign went to great lengths to decorate the event – without knowing the PGA bosses, according to The Palm Beach Post.
During the opening on Thursday, the company smuggled the model to a floating board located on the water hazard of the 18th hole. Disguised in volunteer clothes, the model made her way on the boat before introducing herself in front of the tournament scoreboard and showcasing her gorgeous outfit.

Probably the most shocked person on the whole course was PGA boss Otry, who – described Golf canal – was “stunned” when he witnessed a trick through the TV screen in the parking lot. In The Palm Beach Post, he said: “I was sitting in a trailer in the parking lot meeting with our PGA staff when it happened.
“We were watching a telecast when suddenly the camera magnified the scoreboard and this girl in a bikini.” Clearly outraged by what happened, Otry quickly got out of the trailer and ordered the model removed from office.
He added, “I said,‘ I’ll be back ’” and hurried to find one of our staff. I told him to get in the rowing boat, put on her coat and drive to the trailer. It was the most famous part of the week. I heard that her photo appeared on the front page of the Japanese PGA media guide. “
Not surprisingly, the bikini model attracted a lot of attention and became the main product of the week at PGA National. In addition to antics, of course, was the main winner, as Larry Nelson secured the title by winning the playoffs over Lenny Wadkins.
