Zendaya Debuted a Voluminous Bob With Chunky Highlights on the Set of Her New Movie–See Photos

Zendaya skipped the Met Gala to film her upcoming tennis drama Challengers, and now we have another peek at the actor’s look for the film.

On 20 May, the Daily Mail published photos of the Euphoria star on the set of her new movie, which is currently being filmed in Lynn, Massachusetts. In the photos Zendaya wears an oversized brown zip-up hoodie over a white T-shirt. But the biggest transformation comes not from her style but from her hair, which is worn in a voluminous bob that sits above her shoulders.

Fans first caught sight of the haircut (or wig) in set photos from early May, but the blown-out style depicted in these new pics really shows off the look’s versatility—and chunky blonde highlights.

Zendaya’s latest hair transformation is all about dimension with a bunch of honey-toned highlights. The whole effect of the hairstyle and cozy sweater is a perfect display of the coastal-grandmother aesthetic popularised by, I don’t know, every Nancy Meyers movie ever made. Of course, Zendaya is not starring in a wine-fueled rom-com set primarily in an airy kitchen with a farmhouse sink and open shelving…at least, not yet. In Challengers, directed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name), Zendaya plays Tashi, “a tennis player turned coach” who pressures her husband, Art (Mike Faist), into competing against his former best friend and her former boyfriend (Josh O’Connor) in a tournament on the lower-level professional tennis Challenger circuit.

On 20 April, Zendaya told Extra that she would not be able to attend the Met Gala for the second year in a row due to scheduling conflicts. “I hate to disappoint my fans here, but I will be working,” Zendaya said during a red-carpet interview at a Euphoria For Your Consideration event. “Your girl’s got to work and make some movies, so I wish everyone the best. I will be playing tennis…but I will be back eventually.” She added, “I’ll keep delivering in other ways.”
