Creek Road Deptford: The apartment was broken into after a big fire

Deptford residents say the stolen items included bank cards, TVs, laptops and jewelry.

Employees of the store on the ground floor under the apartment affected by the fire also said that they were victims of theft.

As many as 120 firefighters were involved in a huge fire in Deptford in late April. Thirteen people had to be evacuated from their homes on Creek Road.

In April, the London Fire Brigade said they considered the fire accidental and caused by “hot work” on the roof.

Residents who spoke to the Local Democracy Communications Service are still living away from their homes after the fire engulfed their property.

There are no victims.

The police confirmed that a report of theft from the evacuated apartments had been received.

It is said that there have been no arrests so far.

One resident, who did not want to give her name, said that things were stolen in her apartment along with three others.

They said they confiscated jewelry, cash, bank cards, TV and video game consoles.

Receptionist Jenny Aspes, who works in one of the shops under the apartments, told the Local Democracy Communications Service that her monitor and laptop were also taken from her workplace.

Police say the investigation into the theft is ongoing. After the fire, station commander Ian Smith said: “Fire brigades are working diligently in difficult conditions.”

He added: “We have increased the number of fire engines because of the need for more firefighters in respirators.

“As a result of the incident there is a lot of smoke and we are asking the locals to close the doors and windows.”
