Boris Johnson said he was “very, very surprised” when he was fined for attending a meeting that violates the blockade regime on Downing Street.
The Prime Minister, talking to Mumsnet founder Justin Roberts, was questioned on issues ranging from Partygate and Northern Ireland to diapers and his favorite book to read to his children.
Asked by the teacher why he did not lose his job for breaking the blocking rules, Mr Johnson said: “I apologize for what happened but just to remind her of what I did.
“I think when people look at this event, I felt like a work event, I was there for a very short amount of time in the office, at my desk, and I was very, very surprised and amazed. receive a fixed fine notice ”.
Following the publication of Sue Gray’s report last Wednesday, which showed noisy parties violating the blockade in 2020 and 2021, Mr Johnson told parliament he was taking “full responsibility for everything that happened under my supervision”, and said the government was “humiliated” and “learned a lesson”.
Mr Johnson also told Mumsnet, an online forum for parents, that he did not eat the cake he was given at the event for which he was fined.
“If you satirically talk about that miserable event, the photo of which appeared on the front pages, then I did not eat a single cake, I can tell you, I can tell you that a lot,” he said.
