Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea ownership in numbers

Aside from the summer where the club had to contend with a transfer ban, it is hard to remember a transfer window when Chelsea wasn’t a hub of activity.

However, even by the Blues’ standards, this one looks set to be busy.

The change in ownership will no doubt have knock-on effects all through the football club, especially with a number of players coming to the end of their contract and departing. If Thomas Tuchel is to create a title-challenging team next season, those figures will of course need to be replaced.

Mirror Sport has all of your latest Blues news, as the transfer buzz around Stamford Bridge begins to intensify.

Should Chelsea cash in on Romelu Lukaku after just one season? Let us know in the comments section below!

Lukaku wants to leave

Just a year on from his club-record move back to Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku is said to be ready to leave the Blues again.

The Belgium international struggled for form on his return to the Premier League and found himself out of favour under Tuchel. Both Kai Havertz and Timo Werner were eventually preferred to lead the line over the former Everton and Manchester United man.

Now reports are suggesting that Lukaku would like to return to Inter Milan this summer, having enjoyed success at the San Siro during his two-year spell.

The finances may prove to be a problem for the Serie A giants though, as Chelsea paid a whopping £97.5 million to sign the striker last summer. They will no doubt want to recoup a significant portion of that fee despite the 29-year-old’s struggles.

Dembele speculation intensifies

Chelsea have reportedly emerged as the front-runners to sign Ousmane Dembele this summer.

The Barcelona forward is out of contract at the end of the campaign and it is not yet clear where he will be playing his football next season. Dembele is a fantastic talent, although he is fragile in fitness, meaning any team that does agree terms with him will be taking something of a gamble.

Reports in Spain and England have suggested that the Blues are ready to take the punt, with the chances of the deal happening “taking off” in the previous 24 hours.

Dembele joined Barcelona five years ago in a deal worth roughly £100 million, although he has struggled to showcase his best on a consistent basis due to a succession of injury layoffs.

Hazard anniversary

On Saturday a decade ago, Chelsea completed the signing of Eden Hazard from Lille.

At that time, the Belgian winger was rated as one of the most exciting prospects in world football and he had a number of huge clubs chasing his signature. But after they won the Champions League earlier in 2012, Hazard opted to move to Stamford Bridge.

“When they won the Champions League I told myself, ‘Why not Chelsea?,” he said after agreeing to move. “There was a struggle between Chelsea and [Manchester] United but, for me, Chelsea has the best project. It’s a wonderful club.”

Hazard went on to become one of the best players in Chelsea’s history and Joseph McBridge has reflected on the tussle to land his signature 10 years ago.
