Stevie Nicks pays tribute to her ‘best friend in the whole world’

Stevie Nicks has shared a personal tribute to Christine McVie, calling her “my best friend in the whole world”.

The American singer and member of Fleetwood Mac said she did not know McVie was ill until Saturday night and wanted to visit her in London.

“A few hours ago I was informed that my best friend in the whole world since day one in 1975 has passed away,” she wrote in a post on Instagram.

“I didn’t even know she was ill … until late on Saturday night. I wanted to be in London, I wanted to get to London – but we were told to wait.

“So, since Saturday, one song has been going through my head, over and over and over. I thought maybe I could sing it to her, and so I’m singing it to her now.

“I always knew that one day I would need these words… Now it’s all I can do.”

Nicks then shared the handwritten lyrics to Haim’s Hallelujah, adding: “See you on the other side my love. Don’t forget me. Always, Stevie.”
