Four people are in a critical condition after a suspected mob attack at Brixton O2 Academy

Detectives are investigating the circumstances which led to four people being seriously injured in Brixton O2 Academy on Thursday evening.

Police was called to the venue in Stockwell Road at around 9.35pm after reports of a large number of people trying to break in, after which they found several people with “injuries believed to be caused by crushing”.

Of the eight taken to the hospital, four remain in serious condition.

Although no arrests have been made, detectives from the Specialist Crime Unit have launched an urgent investigation and cordons remain in place at the O2 Academy.

Met Police Gold Commander Ade Adelekan described the incident as “very disturbing” and urged any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to get in touch.

Mr Adelekan added: “I know the video is going viral on social media. I would like to ask people to be sensible about what they share and not post material that will upset those affected by this incident.

“Where the police used force, these officers know that they must answer for their actions. The Met’s Office of Professional Standards reviews all submissions, incl Body Worn video footage of officers at the scene.

“Due to the widely circulated clip, I can confirm that there were no police dogs at the scene.”

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call 101 6725/15 December.

Anyone with mobile phone footage that could assist police is also asked to contact @MetCC on Twitter.
