Archbishop of Canterbury has ‘nightmares’ ahead of King’s coronation
The archbishop with Canterbury said he was already having “nightmares” ahead of the king’s coronation next year.
May 6 of this year. Justin Welby will become the first archbishop in 70 years to crown a monarch, and he has revealed how he feels ahead of the symbolic religious event, which is expected to be watched by millions.
In an interview with Channel 4 News, Mr Welby said he dreamed of accidentally leaving the crown at his official London residence at Lambeth Palace.
“I’m already having nightmares,” he said.
“I dreamed we had reached a point and I left the crown at Lambeth Palace. Obviously, this is very difficult for me.
“But it’s just a great honor and privilege to do it, and Coronation Weekend will be a time to bring the country together.”
The coronation of the king is to take place in Westminster Abbeyand the government made the following Monday – May 8 – an additional public holiday.
Geoffrey Francis Fisher, who served as Archbishop of Canterbury for 16 years from 1945, is crowned by the Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
A king’s coronation is expected to be a smaller, more modern affair than a ceremony for a deceased queen.
