Spectacular Palace of Lights by Simona Valeva, Graveni school
After visiting many other Christmas markets around London, I decided that none were as magical and entertaining as the light show at Hampton Court Palace; including an extended route that doubles its length, available in 2021, light displays and complex installations with sustainability at the heart of the project.
The expert artists and artisans responsible for this amazing experience have strived to use predominantly reclaimed and recycled materials wherever possible, with an ecological footprint in every element of the design.
As stated on their website, the project was; “Inspired by the Royal Beasts, a collection of heraldic statues commissioned for Hampton Court by Henry VIII himself”, the Palace of Light is a chance to experience this unique historic palace like never before.
The 1.3 kilometer route passes through the Wilderness and East Gardens areas of Hampton Court Palace before entering the historic grounds of the palace.
Although the event itself is not Christmas-themed, it features a beautifully decorated 20-foot Christmas tree alongside a host of curious creatures, from glittering unicorns to polka-dotted panthers and from lurking lions to prancing greyhounds.
Hampton Court Palace may already be known for its grand architecture and preserved historic atmosphere, but when it’s lit up in a variety of colors, it brings a magical energy to the historic building we know so well.
Just 15 minutes’ drive from Hampton Court Palace and its glittering atmosphere is the Kingston Christmas Market, which offers a wide range of unique retailers and delicious food to enjoy after exploring the palace’s light display. Fun is available for the whole family with stalls featuring the perfect Christmas gifts such as candles, art, handmade accessories and more.
