Tyler Adams was named the USA Football Player of the Year
Tyler Adams is the 2022 USA Football Player of the Year.
A finalist for the award in 2018 and 2020, Adams was the top choice after captaining the U.S. men’s team at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 23-year-old midfielder received 71.6% of the vote, followed by winger Christian Pulisic with 14.7% and goalkeeper Matt Turner with 8.2%.
“Getting this recognition is definitely special, but for me the team’s success is the most important thing,” Adams said. “The experience of going to the World Championships, performing well as a group and moving the sport forward in the United States was very important to me this year and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”
Adams played every minute of the Americans’ run to the round of 16 at the World Cup. He was named man of the match in the group stage draws against Wales and England.
Professionally, he helped German side RB Leipzig win the DFB-Pokal before moving to Premier League side Leeds United in July.
