A football player of the SUNDAY League got a taste of the professional game — in Kazakhstan.
Once there was a 24-year-old Ishima Musa Wickham Wanderers books, but was released at 18 and feared his dreams were over.
Now Ishima has left the parks football to the elite level – played for FC “Kyzylzhar”.
He was invited to play for Kazakhstan Premier League side in pre-season after impressing in training.
Ishima, of Farringdon, Central Londonsaid: “I played the second half and had an assist.
“We lost 4-1. But I was just happy to be on the pro field, getting minutes.
“Now I’m excited about the opportunities.”
Ishima, who also received an unexpected call-up to the squad Rwanda the 2021 Under 23 team is looking for a team back in the UK.
Ishima practiced for a month and a half before getting 45 minutes in a game earlier this month.
He said: “I was there before the season.
“I played one game, against a Romanian team.
“My agent’s connections have been sorted out.
“The club was looking for a forward.
“I was there for a month, and everything was paid for – travel, food, accommodation.
“I couldn’t stay because there was a problem with my visa.
“But for my own journey, being on the field has been a blessing.
“Now I’m excited about the opportunities.”
Kazakhstan, the homeland of the fictional Borat Sagdiyev, is adopted Sacha Baron Cohen catchphrase of the cheeky mustachioed character – “Very good!” – for a new one tourism company.
But Isima, now back in the UK and looking for another team, loves the country.
