East London police officer accused of rape and suspended

Jorden Brown, who is part of the Central East Division, which includes Hackney and Tower Hamlets, is charged with rape and three counts of wounding.

The alleged offenses took place between November 2018 and February 2019.

They concern one victim and allegedly occurred off-duty.

Brown, who is suspended, is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (February 8).

Cllr Dan Rutland, of the department’s Central East Command, said: “Clerk Brown has been suspended and a criminal investigation will now be launched.

“While I recognize the inevitable force of public sentiment, it is important that nothing is said to jeopardize this process.”
