Indian athletes Aishwarya Babu and M.V. Severely suspended by NADA for doping

New Delhi [India]March 2 (ANI): Indian triple jumper Aishwarya Babu and sprinter MV Jilna have been suspended for India by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) respectively after both tested positive for drugs , prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Organization. – doping agency (WADA).

Aishwarya won the gold medal in the triple jump during the National Inter-State Championships in June last year, clearing 14.14m to set a new national record. After this event, she was checked by NADA officials.

According to Olympics.com, NADA said Aishwarya’s samples tested positive for Ostarine, which falls under WADA’s banned selective androgen receptor modulator (SRAM) category.

As a result, Aishwarya will lose her national record and it will go back to Olympian Mayuha Johnny’s 2011 jump of 14.11m.

The Indian athlete was provisionally suspended by NADA in July last year and served about six months of her four-year ban. NADA also revealed that the athlete did not receive the agency’s Mandatory Therapeutic Use Authorization before using the drug.

In her reply, Aishwarya said that she “did not take any banned substance for enhancement” but rather took Ostarine on the advice of a colleague to get rid of the pain in her shoulder ahead of the Inter-State Championships.

However, her reply failed to convince the NADA disciplinary panel.

“It should be noted that the athlete failed to convince the panel that the ADRV (Anti-Doping Rule Violation) was unintentional… She is hereby disqualified for four years. The period of disqualification begins from the date of provisional suspension (July 18, 2022),” NADA said.

“The athlete is hereby disqualified from all individual results obtained in the said competition with all consequential consequences, including forfeiture of all medals, points and prizes,” the statement added.

Aishwarya has till March 6 to appeal the NADA verdict.

On the other hand, MV Jilna, who is a regular in Indian cricket, has been given a three-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) starting from June 22, 2022 and ending on July 21, 2025. Jilna has tested positive. Prolmorelin, a growth hormone, is banned by World Athletics. (ANI)
