The UK is bracing for strong winds that will cause blizzards and traffic disruptions

Forecasters are warning that heavy snow storms and travel disruption are expected in the UK on Thursday.

The Metaburo has issued an amber warning for “strong blizzard winds” and up to 40cm of snow for an area stretching from Stoke-on-Trent in Durham.

Wednesday night is expected to be cold, in the southeast the air temperature will be around minus 1 degree Englandand in the north of Scotland to minus 13C.

While there will be some rain in the south of England on Thursday, changing to snow as it spreads north to central parts of the UK.

The Met Bureau is predicting that the snow will clear in eastern England on Friday, but the snow is expected to persist in northern Scotland.

An amber weather warning is in place for 21 hours from 3pm on Thursday – with “significant disruption” to transport, power lines and telephone networks likely.

Several milder yellow weather warnings for snow have also been issued to cover much of the country from Wednesday to Friday.

Great Britain Health The UKHSA has issued a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert for all regions of England – until midnight on Thursday.

Agostino Sousa, a UKHSA consultant, said the cold weather could have a “serious impact” on people’s health, particularly the elderly, while Age of Great Britain urged people to turn to their elderly neighbors and relatives.

National Highways Agency has warned drivers in the West Midlands and East Anglia not to drive unless their journey is essential.

RAC Breakdown said the area stretching west of London along the M4 corridor and into Wales was seeing an “increase in breakdowns”.

The RAC’s Rod Dennis said: “We are continuing to monitor the weather situation closely, but with further snow expected over the next few days, significant travel disruption is still possible.

“Even a little snow and ice can make the roads treacherous, so we advise everyone who is going to take extra care.

“We are also aware that there will be a large number of new drivers who may never have encountered snow on the roads before, so we urge them to take extra care and drive within the speed limit to give themselves enough time to react if the vehicle will face difficulties ahead.’

Mr Dennis advised motorists heading out to prepare for their journeys by packing warm clothes and blankets, sturdy footwear, food and drink and a portable phone charger.

A Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice is in place for the north of Scotland until 10am on Thursday, and for central and southern England and Wales from midnight until 7am.

Another yellow warning for snow and ice is in place for north-east England and south-east Scotland from 5pm on Wednesday until 7am on Thursday.

A fourth yellow warning for snow covers the whole of the UK north of Birmingham from 7am on Thursday until 2pm on Friday.
