A MAN who bought a house on Britain’s “most dangerous street” for just £5,000 says it is now worth £1 million.
75-year-old Hasan Rezvan lived in the village four-room house with a terrace off Coldharbour Lane in Brixton, South London for 53 years.
He bought the house in 1970 for just £5,000 after arriving in the UK from Cyprus without extra money.
There was a square shaken by the 1981 Brixton riots before acquiring a reputation for violence and drug use.
In 2003, Coldharbour Lane was named Britain’s most dangerous street, with more than £1 million stolen every month.
Hassan said MyLondon: “Approximately 15 years ago, a neighboring house was broken into twice, but the woman who lives there said that it was her ex-boyfriend.

He added that screams could often be heard from nearby Lillyford House, where there was a resident police presence.
But Liliford House car park has now been converted into a residential block with glass balconies, which has boosted house prices and reduced crime.
A four-bed house like Hassan’s on Coldharbour Lane recently sold for more than £1 million, but the pensioner has no plans to cash in.
He said, “I have no money in my pocket. The only way to get them is to sell them and go home to Cyprus.
“But if I’ve lived here for 50 years, this is my home now.”
Hassan added that any money he made from the sale would likely be absorbed by the Cypriot health system when he returned.
The adopted South Londoner said young people have to make sacrifices if they want to own a home.
Pointing to his torn black shoes, he said: “Kids want their names on the sneakers, but I’m happy with these.”
