In London, the Global Media Congress published a White Paper on the future of the media industry

LONDON, 20 March 2023 (WAM) — The Global Media Congress, in partnership with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) and leading transatlantic think tank, the Henry Jackson Society, today launched a new White Paper on the future of the media industry. at an exclusive event in Westminster, London.

The event brought together more than 60 media executives, MPs, academics and other figures from across the industry around the theme of “Building Sustainable Media Organizations in the Age of Disinformation”.

The highlight of the morning was an open panel discussion featuring Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, CEO of WAM; Lord Bethel, former Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State; and Chio Robertson, senior business editor. The conversation was moderated by the Henry Jackson Society’s accomplished director of research, Mark Sidwell, a former journalist.

The publication of the White Paper follows the conclusion of the inaugural Global Media Congress in Abu Dhabi last November. Organized by WAM in association with ADNEC Group, this highly successful new event for the media industry attracted 14,000 experts and visitors over three days. Preparations for its second edition in November 2023 are already gaining momentum.

A key feature of the Global Media Congress is the Media Future Labs, a series of no-holds-barred roundtable debates led by those shaping the future of the media industry. It is from these discussions that this new White Paper has been developed. It presents eight different perspectives on fundamental questions related to the sustainability of news organizations in an era of rapid technological change and the spread of misinformation.

Central topics explored include media literacy, the impact of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, the demand for human-centric news, the rise of the metaverse and the consumption habits of Gen Z. The white paper also features four expert opinions from leading media practitioners.

Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, CEO of WAM, said: “I hope this White Paper will serve as a guide for the global media industry as we work together for sustainable reforms in the future. This is something we intend to update and publish annually.”

In the face of fundamental transnational challenges – not least the proliferation of disinformation – the role and place of the media is under scrutiny. But its centrality and importance to society has never been stronger.
