After killing a 23-year-old boy after a night out, Abdulhaq has refused to return to face trial in the UK.

But the texts in the BBC documentary ‘Murder in Mayfair’, to be released tonight, show the son of the late Yemeni billionaire Shaher Abdulhaq says, “I did something when I was younger. It was a mistake.”

He was tracked down Bib journalist Nawal Al-Maghafi, who exchanged messages and a phone call with the alleged killer.

In their conversation, he told Ms Al Maghafi: “Now I don’t understand what happened, it’s all a blur” and how “when I smell certain women’s perfumes, I feel uncomfortable”.

But he added that Martina’s death was: “It was just a sexual incident that went wrong.

“No one knows because I could barely piece together what happened.”

When she asked Abdulhaq if he regretted anything, he said, “I deeply regret the accident that happened.”

Abdulhaq later told her he would not return to the UK because they would “make an example of me being the son of an Arab”, despite admitting he regretted running away.

And he joked darkly: “I don’t like the weather there.”

Martin was found dead in the rubble of a cellar in Great Portland Street, Westminster, after a night out with friends to celebrate being top of her class in her exams.

Police said she was strangled and raped.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was a laceration to the neck.

CCTV showed her leaving the exclusive Mayfair nightclub Maddox at 2am on March 14 with Abdulhaq, nicknamed ‘DP’ for his love of Dom Perignon champagne.

She had previously dated her alleged killer, a £10,000-a-year fellow at Regent’s Business School.

A few hours later, he was on his father’s private plane, from where he flew to Egypt and then to Yemen.

Abdulhaq, whose soft drinks and petrol tycoon father was worth £6.8 billion, now works for Cryptocurrency.

Martines’ father, Odd Petter Magnussen, told the billionaire heir “You Can’t Hide Forever” as he demanded to return to the UK to face justice.

He tells the BBC: “He tried to portray it as a mutual accident of sexual intercourse.

“It was definitely a sexual act, but it was forced on Martine – as I can tell from the information I’ve gathered over the years.”

Asked if he would speak to Ms Magnussen’s father, Od Peter, Abdulhak said: “It would be too difficult for me.

“It’s been 14 years. What’s another year or two. I don’t care. I don’t want to talk about it. Please move on. It makes me uncomfortable.”
