King Charles’ last coronation live: Prince and Princess of Wales welcome guests to Windsor Coronation concert

The Prince and Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance in Windsor on Sunday afternoon, where they greeted people arriving for the Coronation Concert.

William and Kate will join the King and Queen and around 20,000 guests at a star-studded event at Windsor Castle this evening, where they will see performances Take this, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

The couple’s appearance in Windsor came as thousands of communities gathered across the country for the Coronation Big Lunch. King Charles and Queen Camilla sent their “warmest good wishes” to those across the country joining the street parties.

Saturday’s coronation brought together around 100 heads of state, kings and queens from around the world, celebrities, everyday heroes, and family and friends of Charles and Camilla.

The husband and wife, wearing gorgeous robes and crowns, made two appearances on the balcony of Buckingham Palace before crowds braved downpours during a military celebration not seen for 70 years.

Organizers of Sunday’s Coronation concert have promised a “wonderful celebration” of the historic event with millions in attendance watching the star-studded line-up.

A huge TV audience – more than 20,000 people who will be there Windsor The Castle will feature Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Take this, Paloma Vera, Olly Mursveteran rocker Steve Winwood and Nicole Scherzinger performed by The Pussycat Dolls. King Invites Ibiza Classics For Coronation Concert, DJ Says

DJ Pete Tong revealed that the king had specifically requested classic Ibiza songs as part of his coronation concert.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ, who has been tasked with granting the king’s wish at tonight’s event, said he hoped it would be a “brilliant” way to kick off the show in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Speaking backstage ahead of the event, Tong said: “He wanted an Ibiza classic – that was very specific.

“And then they asked us to suggest a couple of songs, so we suggested three or four, and he came back with one of them, and that was the one that starts the show. So they were very much involved in what they wanted us to accomplish.”

“I think they want to show a wide range of UK talent and touch all different demographics and be relevant to different age groups.”

Who will perform today at the “Coronation” concert?

Tonight’s concert will start at Windsor Castle at 8pm, with musicians and bands including Lionel Richie, Take That and Paloma Faith set to perform.

Other stars including Bear Grylls, Tom Jones, Tom Cruise and beloved fictional bear Winnie the Pooh are going to appear in pre-recorded sketches.

Prince George turned secret rocker at the coronation

During a surprise meet and greet, the Prince of Wales told royal fans that his son, Prince George, is a big fan of rock bands AC/DC and Led Zeppelin.

On Sunday, William and Kate welcomed Big Dinner attendees and Coronation Concert attendees to an unannounced walk of around 40 minutes along Windsor’s Long Walk.

Nine-year-old George played his first major ceremonial role at his grandfather’s coronation as an honorary page.

Caroline Mulvihill from the Rock Choir in Windsor and Maidenhead spoke to William during the meet and greet.

She told the PA news agency: “We were talking about the music we do in Rock Choir and Will told us that in their family they have very varied musical tastes and George really likes AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. It was very interesting to hear that.”

King ‘very pleased’ with coronation, says Dean of Canterbury

The king was “very pleased” on the day of his coronation and the rain “didn’t dampen his spirits”, the Dean of Canterbury said.

The dean said: “The King is very pleased with the day and even the rain didn’t dampen his spirits. It was very clear that everyone wanted to enjoy themselves.”
