“I know Matt touched the lives of many, many people with his friendliness, patience, kindness, enthusiasm and caring.

“I had the pleasure of sharing five years of my life with this wonderful man – my gentle giant, with his contagious smile and big heart. I think of him with tenderness and love.

“Matt has been my partner, friend, confidant, support and soul mate.

“He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. Matt will always be on my mind and in my heart.”

Sergeant Ratana moved to work as a guard because it was safer before the tragedy.
