The weather service is predicting temperatures in the mid to upper 20s for the most part England over the next few days.

London Temperatures are expected to reach 28 degrees on Wednesday Manchester the temperature is likely to reach 27C.

The temperature can also rise to 28 degrees Cardiff during the day, while it should be a little cooler across Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon said: “The heat will ease slightly over the next few days.

“London may not meet the heat criteria, for example, but plenty of dry, fine, sunny weather is expected this week, with temperatures remaining well above average.

“The weekend should be fairly dry, with temperatures remaining warm for many, although it will also be wet and warm overnight.”

But Stephen predicted that some areas could be hit by thunderstorms as early as tomorrow.

He said: “Thursday there is a chance of thunderstorms moving into western parts of Northern Ireland and possibly moving further east into parts of Wales.

“The risk of showers will remain on Friday, but there will still be plenty of dry weather on Thursday and Friday, particularly in the southeast.”

It comes after a swath of the UK, stretching from north-west to south-east England, broke the threshold for a heatwave.

In Chertsey, the temperature reached 32.2 degrees. Surreyon Saturday June 10, the highest recorded this year.

Porthmadog, in north-west Wales, recorded the highest temperature of 30.8 degrees on Tuesday.

According to the Met Office, a heatwave is defined as three consecutive days when the daily maximum temperature reaches or exceeds the heatwave temperature threshold.

The threshold varies from county to county.
