The schoolboy approached Purneys Road Eltham

The incident is reported to have happened at around 9.20pm today (June 15) on Purneys Road.

An adult who was looking after the child reported the incident to the school, which then contacted the police.

The baby is safe and well.

Operational measures are being taken to clarify the circumstances.

The News Shopper understands the incident involved a pupil at Eldham Primary School in Eldham Square.

Press secretary Greenwich The council said the school could not comment on the incident as it was a police matter.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 09:20 on Thursday 15 June after concerns were raised about an incident where a man in a van was reported to be talking to a child who was on his way to school on Purneys Road, SE9.

“An adult who was looking after the child reported the incident to the school, which then contacted the police.

“The child is safe and healthy.

“An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the incident.”
