The house suddenly collapsed, they are urgently looking for people who were under the rubble, and nearby residents are being evacuated

FIREFIGHTERS are searching through debris after a house collapsed this afternoon and investigators are not sure if anyone was inside.

Building in Finsbury Park North Londongave way just after noon, several people were evacuated from the vicinity properties.

Dust filled the street as the back of the house collapsed, exposing brickwork and wooden floors.

Most of the building’s roof collapsed, leaving only the steel support beam.

Around 60 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) are at the scene, while the video shows them shouting: “If there is anyone under the rubble, sound the alarm. We hear you.”

Five fire trucks arrived at the scene for search and evacuation operations.

“There are many emergency vehicles at the scene. The area has been evacuated while the cause is being investigated.”

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: “All I heard was a loud noise and the building I live in shook as if there was an earthquake. It was very scary.

“When I looked out the window, the whole building had collapsed.

Press secretary of Metropolitan police said: “Police were called to Gloucester Drive, N4, at approximately 12.20pm on Saturday June 24 following reports of a partial building collapse.

“Emergency services have attended and a number of properties have been evacuated for safety reasons. At this early stage we cannot confirm whether anyone has been injured. The investigation is ongoing.”

A spokesman for the LFB said: “A three-storey house with a basement has collapsed at the rear.

“The brigade was called at 12.17 and is still on the scene.

“Fire crews from Kentish Town, East Ham, Islington, Edmonton, Battersea and East Ham fire stations are in attendance.”
