Weather at Wimbledon: Spectators braced for thunderstorms and wet weather

Tennis fans head to Wimbledon Pack your bags today, as thunderstorms are expected on the first weekend of this year’s championship.

Heavy showers, thunderstorms and lightning are expected across SW19 between 12pm and 3pm, but will ease in the afternoon.

There is a 70 chance of thunderstorms at 1 p.m., half an hour before kickoff on Center Court, according to the Met Office.

But spectators on Wimbledon’s 18 courts should enjoy sunny skies from 5 p.m.

Sweltering temperatures are also expected on Saturday, peaking around 30C (86F), the Met Office said.

It is supplied as a yellow health warning has been issued in six regions of the UK, meaning that the use of health services by the most vulnerable could increase.
