Travelers heading to a major UK airport faced disruption today as a train canceled half its services – The Sun

The operator said this was due to “more trains than usual requiring repairs at the same time”.

Services have been reduced from noon to midnight to just two every hour instead usually four an hour.

This is another breakdown for the year train disruptions as unions went on strike for better pay and conditions.

The Heathrow Express, Great Western Railway and Elizabeth lines were also affected by the failure at points in Slough, Berkshire, which blocked some lines.

Sets of points are used to transfer trains from one track to another.
Services to and from London Paddington and both Reading and Heathrow are disrupted.

The Great Western Highway has already been investigated by the Rail and Road Authority for poor reliability.

Four damaged rails were discovered in eight days of last month.

And that's just days after £20 billion Line of Elizabeth stopped in London, leaving the passengers in the carriages.

Thousands of passengers were stranded on trains near London Paddington for several hours in west London on Thursday night after overhead power cables were damaged.

Many LNER services between London King's Cross and Edinburgh were canceled on Monday.

It comes after the East Coast Main Line was closed between Peterborough and Grantham because overhead cables were damaged by Storm Elaine on Saturday night.

There were passengers on LNER, Grand Central, Hull Trains and Lumo advised not to go on Sunday while repairs were underway.

A message to LNER passengers said: “Following repairs to damaged overhead lines between Peterborough and Grantham over the weekend, customers are strongly advised to check for the latest service updates before travelling.”

Network Rail said it had completed repairs to three of the four damaged lines.

Work on the fourth line is expected to be completed overnight from Monday to Tuesday.

Several operators blamed crew shortages for Monday's train cancellations, including Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and London Northwestern Railway.
