UK weather: Met Office gives strong hint it WILL be a white Christmas and snow

The Met Office has given a strong hint that it will be a White Christmas – with snow.

Forecasters note that “winter rains” are possible in the northern regions at the end of this week and at the weekend.

If the wintry rains continue into next week, there may be a dusting of snow Christmas.

A Metaburo A spokesman said: “As we approach the end of next week and the festive period, there is, as always, more uncertainty in the forecast.

“However, there are indications that by the end of next week we could see high pressure move further south and west of the UK, allowing NW winds to develop at times.

“This would allow for a few brief spells of colder air affecting the UK, with the possibility of wintry showers in northern areas.”

But any snow unlikely to settle, with little sign of “broad or severe” cooling.

Many areas will experience rain this week, with the mercury hovering around the December average.

Met Office expert Matthew Lennert said: “Early next week this front will slowly move south and bring some light rain to the rest of the UK.

“When the front clears to the south, temperatures will return to average levels.

“It will remain changeable during the middle of the week, with the longest dry spells in the south and east.”

There are none weather warnings currently this or next week.
