Flamingos, nurses, cheerleaders and more walked the streets before they hit the clubs.

There were also about dinosaurs, chickens and pirates.

All the groups were smiling as they posed for the cameras.

You could hear merry revelers cheering on their friends, and loud music blared through the streets.

They could be seen in queues snaking around metal barriers, waiting to head out for a celebratory drink.

It's a jolly time of year, and partygoers have been celebrating since Friday.

The British impressed the city with bells and whistles welcomed during the festive season.

The partygoers started celebrating Christmas early – and dressed the part too.

Revelers donned holiday sweaters, Mr. and Mrs. Claus outfits and Santa hats as they set off on Friday.

Streets of Leeds, Swansea, Birmingham and Manchester were full of smiling faces as the groups began to celebrate the Christmas break.

And those who were not in festive clothes were still dressed to the nines when they went to pubs and nightclubs.

Then they are did the same on Saturday.

Hundreds of revelers dressed as Father Christmas and his minions descended on the Otley Run, the legendary fancy dress pub in Leeds.

At st. 17 stops pub crawl, which is a rite of passage for first-year students at Leeds Beckett University and the University of Leeds.

Pictures showed students braving the cold in Santa and elf costumes, although at least two came in the form of turkeys.

One reveler had his face painted to look like the Grinch and was joined by two other youngsters wearing Santa mini dresses and tights.

Another group came as a child Jesus in his manger, Mary and the three wise men.

Otley Run was happening every weekend this month as the festivities ramp up on the eve of Christmas.

It comes as Storm Gerrit was named and strong winds and rain began to batter Britain.

Boxing Day swimmers were still braving the cold today as they hit the UK coast to work off their festive feasts.

Storm Gerrit will bring sleet, snow and two weeks of rain to much of Britain in the coming days, forecasters say.
