Gerpins Lane Waste Centre, Upminster is moving to online booking

People using Gerpins Lane Reuse and Recycling Center in Upminster, Havering's main recycling site, now need to book spaces in advance, according to the council.

East London Waste Management (ELWA)which supervises refuse disposal for Havering, Redbridge, Newham and Barking and Dagenham, announced the move on its website.

Those wanting to bring waste by private transport will now need to make a reservation, ELWA has confirmed.

“Bookings are required for all vans or vehicles towing trailers, and from January 1, 2024, for any vehicle transporting homemade waste,” the ELWA website said in a statement.

ELWA said this was done to make it easier for people to use the “increased rate” of homemade waste, which includes rubble, bathrooms and soil.

It said it would also protect against “abuse” by those who have to pay for waste disposal, such as builders.
