Migrants crossed the English Channel into the UK for the first time in 2024 | UK news

For the first time in 2024, it became known that migrants are crossing the English Channel to Great Britain.
According to the Home Office, no arrivals have been recorded since December 16 because poor weather conditions potentially contributed to the lack of activity at sea.
This means that until today there have been no crossings for 27 days.
It was the longest gap in small boat arrivals in five years.
A group of people believed to be migrants were spotted in Dover, Kent this morning.
They saw how they arrived on a border troops ship.
The previous annual number of crossings in 2023, 29,437, is 36% below the record 45,774 crossings for the whole of 2022.
That's still the second-highest annual total on record, topping 2021's tally of 28,526.
This breaking news is being updated and more details will be released soon.
