Next week, King Charles will undergo a “correction procedure” for an enlarged prostate

King Charles III will undergo treatment for an enlarged prostate next week, according to Buckingham Palace, which has described his operation as a “corrective procedure” for the benign condition. The announcement came shortly after news that Catherine, Princess of Wales and Prince William's wife underwent abdominal surgery in London on Tuesday.

While the princess was expected to stay in hospital for up to two weeks, the king's recovery is expected to be speedy.

Buckingham Palace announced that the king would postpone his engagement for a “short period of recovery”. It does not specify the hospital where 75-year-old Charles will be treated. A palace spokesman said the king decided to reveal his medical procedure because he hoped it would encourage men who may be experiencing similar symptoms to get tested.

Benign prostate enlargement is common in men over the age of 50, according to the UK's National Health Service. It is not cancer and usually does not pose a serious health threat.
