Scary moment: British Airways flight aborts attempt to land at Heathrow Airport as plane battles Storm Isha

A BRITISH Airways flight was forced to abort its landing attempt at Heathrow Airport due to strong winds from Storm Isha.

Other airlines had to land 500 miles away to avoid are dangerous 90 miles per hour.

Footage shared on YouTube showed several planes abandoning their attempts to land, including the plane British Airways a plane that was forced to take off again after a shaky landing.

The plane can be seen shaking from gusts of wind as it descends. It hits the ground unevenly on the rear left wheel and bounces off the asphalt.

The pilot attempted to land a few minutes later, but was forced to turn around again as the gusts remained too strong.

It took several attempts before the pilot was able to land safely.

Data from FlightRadar24 showed that several flights were forced to reroute on Sunday.

The weather service Warning coastal areas should continue to expect stormy conditions overnight and into Monday morning.

Currig Chapel, in Erire, Walesstrong 90 mph gusts rumbled through the area this afternoon.

The press secretary of Metaburo told The Sun: “Capel Curig, in Erire, is a very exposed site with a reputation for strong winds.

“The wind is blowing into this area.

“There was a 90mph wind gust at 3pm today.”

The weather service added that the storm “will affect everyone”, which could see winds of 70 mph inland and gusts of up to 80 mph in other areas.

The spokesman added: “The main message is that it's best not to travel unless you have to.

“Avoid open routes such as high ground or coastal roads, stick to main routes such as motorways and take care when passing vehicles with high sides.”

Forecasters previously issued yellow weather warning for rain covering the whole of the UK, while more severe warnings, this time for wind, cover much of the north and west.

Everywhere north of Manchester including the whole Scotlandas well as most of Wales and the north coast Devon and Cornwall today, gusts are forecast to reach 85 mph.

A “tornadoachty” zone was issued. Northern Irelandand parts of Scotland and northern England by the Tornado and Storm Research Organization (Torro) on Sunday afternoon.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “There is a chance we could see the odd isolated tornado, mainly associated with a blustery cold front across western parts of the UK on Sunday evening.

“They can cause significant damage, but often on a very localized scale, they often don't last very long.”

Forecasters also provided some top tips to help you protect yourself during a severe storm.

Car users have been told widen the gaps between them, use low beam and keep a tight grip on the wheel.

For now members of the public were told stay away from glass such as windows and also stay away from rooms that do not have a flue above them.

Britain has been told to prepare for power outages, downed trees and total travel chaos.
