More than 100 evacuated and nearly a dozen injured in fire in South Kensington | London

Eleven people have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a converted block of flats in an upmarket center London neighborhood of South Kensington.

Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were called to the blaze at a terraced house converted into flats in Imperial Gate, south west London, near the Natural History Museum.

London Fire Brigade Posted on X that 11 people were treated for smoke inhalation and about 130 residents were evacuated from the property where the fire started, as well as neighboring buildings.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said the victims were taken to “London hospitals and major trauma centres”.

The service said 15 fire engines and about 100 firefighters attended the scene, where half of the first floor of the building was on fire.

“The fire spread from the first floor to the upper floor and the roof of the building,” said station commander Steve Collins.

“Crews are working very hard to contain [fire] to stop it spreading to neighboring buildings.

“The roads are closed and are likely to remain until the morning rush hour, so motorists are advised to avoid the area. However, rail services will not be affected and will operate as normal.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
