Wayne Cousens will be charged with indecent exposure

The 50-year-old former Metropolitan Police officer is already serving a life sentence for murdering 33-year-old Ms Everard.

In March 2021, Cousins, then on duty, grabbed head of marketing Ms Everard as she walked home in south London.

Cousens, formerly of Deal in Kent, was charged with several counts of indecent exposure following his conviction.

A claim by his legal team that he could not face a fair trial because of the publicity surrounding Ms Everard’s murder was dismissed by a senior judge.

Cousins went on to plead guilty at the Old Bailey to three counts of indecent exposure in February.

Cousins will be sentenced for the offenses on Monday by Judge May.

The incidents took place in a forest and at a fast food restaurant in Kent between November 2020 and February 2021.

On 13 November 2020, he left a woodland in Deal, Kent, naked and masturbating as a woman drove past.

Mrs Justice May said: “She was scared and shaken and there was nothing she could do but drive past, up the hill, as fast as she could.”

She noticed a black car parked 50 meters away and remembered the incomplete number plate.

She alerted some walkers before calling her husband to tell him what had happened at around 1.40pm.

Traffic cameras and cell site data found Cousens in his Seat in that country at the time.

A few months later, on separate occasions on February 14 and 27, 2021, Cousens exposed his genitalia to staff at a fast food restaurant in Kent.

He sat in his car and stared straight at them, showing off his manly penis as he held out his card to pay for the meal.

The senior judge said: “The women were shocked, upset and angry.”

Officers last took the registration number and identified the car on CCTV as a black Seat, which was registered to Cousens.

A credit card in his name was used to make the payment, while ANPR and cell site data was used to track the accused’s vehicle in the area during the incidents.

Cousens dismissed three other indecent exposure charges related to the alleged incident in June 2015, one from Jan. 22 to Feb. 1, 2021, and one from Jan. 30 to Feb. 6, 2021.

Those charges are expected to remain in the court file.

An independent inquiry led by Dame Elish Angelini will look into Cousins’ previous sex offenses and whether opportunities were missed to stop him before Ms Everard’s murder.
