Eilish McColgan could miss London Marathon due to ‘knee sprain’

Eilish McColgan there are doubts to make her London Marathon debut on Sunday due to knee problem.

Organizers of the event confirmed on Thursday evening that McColgan had postponed her trip to London to give her the best chance of competing, and therefore would not be attending the scheduled pre-event press conference on Friday morning.

The 32-year-old Scot, who won her first major track title at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, we’ll see how the injury reacts before making a final decision. Organizers have confirmed that an update is expected by 2pm on Friday.

“Unfortunately I’ve tweaked my knee in the last few days,” said McColgan, whose mother Liz won the 1996 London Marathon.

“I’m waiting to see how he responds to treatment and want to wait as long as possible before making a final decision on Sunday’s TCS London Marathon.”

McColgan had planned to run the 2022 London Marathon last October before he was forced to withdraw due to medical issues.

The problem was identified as rebound hypoglycemia, a common occurrence among endurance athletes that results in low blood sugar and insufficient blood glucose to meet the body’s needs.
