Actor Tamayo Perry, known for ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean,’ discovered deceased with absent arm and leg in apparent shark incident

The incident occurred on Sunday, June 23, while Perry was surfing off the coast of Oahu in Hawaii, where he served as a City and County of Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguard. According to the Associated Press, authorities responded to reports of a surfer being attacked near Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore shortly before 1 p.m. local time.

During a press conference, Shayne Enright from the Honolulu Emergency Services Department confirmed the details, expressing the profound difficulty of the situation for everyone involved. Honolulu Ocean Safety responded promptly with jet skis and brought Perry to shore, where Honolulu EMS personnel sadly pronounced him deceased.

Tamayo Perry was known for his roles in notable films such as 2011’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and 2002’s Blue Crush. Acting Chief Kurt Lager of Honolulu Ocean Safety described Perry as a beloved lifeguard and professional surfer with a global reputation. Lager emphasized Perry’s infectious personality and the deep love he had for others, urging respect for the family’s privacy during this grievous time.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi paid tribute, calling Perry a legendary waterman and highly respected figure. Perry had joined the Ocean Safety department in July 2016, starting a career dedicated to protecting beachgoers. Following the incident, Ocean Safety personnel promptly issued shark warnings in the area, as confirmed by Enright.

For now, the community mourns the loss of Tamayo Perry, remembering him for his contributions as both a lifeguard and an actor.
