The Scottish capital, reportedly the most affordable housingbetter travel times and overall higher levels of happiness.

And while residents of all areas of the city love being there, many feel that one thing definitely gets on their nerves.

Ben Smith, 29, who lives in Stockbridge, said there was a great sense of community.

He told The Sun Online: “I’ve been in Edinburgh for 18 months but I think it’s brilliant.

“I moved to work. There are parkways and a real sense of community, even though Edinburgh is a big city.

“I like going out for a drink with friends or a meal with my partner.

“It’s a great city and very friendly – I’m really excited about the start of the Fringe [Festival] to fully immerse yourself in Edinburgh.”

Peter Letz, 35, added: “It’s a good, very good place, a beautiful city.

“I always feel a good atmosphere, I like how you are in the city, but at the same time in nature.

“The people are very nice, on weekends or holidays I like to spend time with my friends.

“I try to discover new places, last time I was with my friend we went to Portobello and it was amazing – a beautiful place.

“There’s not much I don’t like about Edinburgh, maybe the weather isn’t the best at times.”

However, some talked about how public transport it’s not very good for such a big place.

Charlotte Davies, 24, from Leith, moved to Edinburgh from the south of England for the university.

She said her only problem was the traffic.

She said: “I love Edinburgh. I came from the south at university and I’ve never left it.

“It’s amazing and there’s so much to do – you can hang out in one of the parks or head to Arthur’s Seat.

“You can also go out for dinner in Leith, which has a different feel to the city centre.

“My only problem with Edinburgh is how long the trams take.

“It’s been years, but it’s exciting that they’re almost complete.”

Student Benat Yanez, 20, agreed and said it could be “difficult to predict”.

He said: “It’s quite a nice city, I really like the architecture.

“I also like that the parks are close by, so it’s very easy to walk to places.

“I love going to Arthur’s Seat and also spending time here at the Meadows.

“I don’t like the fact that there is always work on the road, because of this the buses are always late.

“Public transport just becomes difficult to predict.”
