UK weather: Met Office issues flood warning during heavy rain – here’s what’s affected
The Met Office has warned that there will be thunderstorms and possible flooding in parts of the UK today.
Brits have spent the last few weeks basking in 30C temperatures, but now the weather is taking a turn.
The risk of heavy thunderstorms is likely to develop early this week, say the weather service.
And for some, thunderstorms are still expected “with more unstable weather on the weekend.”
In the northeast of the country, frequent rains are forecast, but it still feels quite warm.
A yellow warning for rain is in effect Scotland until about noon on Monday.
The Met said: “A wet and windy start to the new week for Scotland as heavy rain moves north.
“Elsewhere drier, with some sunny spells, although showers will start to fall later.”
Showers are forecast in Aberdeen with temperatures reaching 16C.
Manchester it will be around 19C and Glasgow only 17C.
LondonNorwich, Cardiff, st West Midlands and all of Hull will see temperatures in the low 20s today.
About 27 flood warnings were issued across the country with three warnings about West YorkshireLancashire and Warwickshire.
Residents of Scotland can expect disruption with the Met warning that bus and rail services could be affected and homes could be flooded.
The Met Office warned: “Heavy rain continues across NW Scotland this morning – take extra care when travelling.”
What you can expect at the Met Office:
- Bus and rail services are likely to have an impact on journey times taking longer
- Spraying and flooding on roads is likely to increase travel time
- Flooding of individual houses and businesses is possible
- Possible interruptions in electricity supply and other services
In Wales, some areas have already experienced flooding, with police urging people to be careful on the roads.
North Wales Police said: “We are receiving numerous calls regarding flooding in the Wrexham area, with some roads impassable at the moment.
“We have advised Highways, could you please take care on the roads and delay your journey if you can.”
